After he had left Meg and the forests of the Land of Shadows far behind, Victor had decided to travel back to the woods where he had met Odette, hoping that it would help relieve him of the terrible sadness of taking a life. But it had done no good. He still felt as guilty and scared of what he had done as if it had only just happened. What's more, he seemed to be stuck in his child form at the moment, unable to change into his older self or his true form. It didn't really bother Victor much. His mind was preoccupied with other things anyway. He continued to walk along a simple path until he turned a bend and found himself facing a large river. He slowly went over to the bank before taking off his shoes and putting his feet in the water. It felt nice after walking so long and the cold helped to calm his mind a bit.

"Jamie, I want you to stay here for a while. Okay. I'll be back in a little while." said the dark shadowy figure known as Pitch. "Yes, sir." said Jamie timidly as he watched his dark master leave the premises. The little boy was partially relieved to be left alone. His eyes looked down upon the water front. It glistened like dozens of little crystals, dangling from a crystal chandelier. It was nice. The little brown haired boy just sat on a log and was quite content.

Victor had been sitting on the bank for a while, his eyes shut as he tried to quiet the turmoil in his mind. However, he gave a small frown and opened his eyes onto the surroundings. He had suddenly sensed the presence of a living person close by. And something else he couldn't properly place. He rose to his feet and looked around the forest. "Hello?" he called out in a voice that echoed back from the trees. He didn't want to be surprised by anyone. Better to just call out and see if anyone came out.

Jamie sat there still watching to the glistening water. He heard a voice coming from somewhere, after all the horrible scary things he's met and now being forced to serve the boogeyman demon he wasn't too happy to answer back, but for some reason he did. He answered very lighty. "Hi." and it was in a very timid voice. He gently wrapped his arms around himself, he just did something foolish. He was now scared.

Victor listened quietly to see if anyone would call back. And they did. The voice was small and very quiet but Victor had heard the direction it came from. Slowly, he approached the source of the voice, unsure of what to say or do. He stopped beside a tangle of bushes near the riverbank and hesitated before pushing them aside and stepping through. Immediately, he spotted a young boy about the age of the form he was in. He was sitting on a log near the water and looked frightened. Victor stood still as he watched the boy. "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to startle you if I did. I just thought I....heard something strange." No point in mentioning that he had sensed the boy's presence and something else.

Jamie looked at the dark haired boy in front of him. It took him a while to speak. He usually started out nervous and shy talking to people. It took him a while to think about what to say. He remembered what Pitch had told him, when talking to strangers, pretend that he was Pitch's son. "Ugh, it's okay. That was probably my dad. He left. He makes a lot of strange noises." he ended up saying.

Victor gave a small frown at the boy. It was very strange for Victor to come across someone even more shy than himself. And given what had just happened with the last stranger he had met, Victor wasn't sure he should even continue talking to this boy. But he looked so frightened. Surely no harm could come from him just talking to him? "You're father? Why did he leave you out here all alone?" There was a pause before Victor remembered his manners. "Oh, I'm sorry. I didn't introduce myself. I'm Victor." He gave the boy a small smile.

Jamie looked up at Victor and saw his small smile. A small calm feeling started to grow in Jamie’s heart causing the little boy to give a light smile back. “Nice to meet you, I’m Jamie. My dad had to take care of some work. He doesn’t want me to get in the way. So he left me here for now. I sort of prefer it, it’s nice just to look at nature once in a while.” Jamie took a deep breath, it wasn't easy for him to pretend to be the son of Pitch, but in a way saying that just seemed natural, in a way.

Victor nodded but at the same time couldn't help but notice how Jamie seemed to act strangely at the mention of his father. Victor didn't know if he believed that the presence he had felt earlier was Jamie's father. Their energy felt completely different from each other. But he decided to not question it. "Jamie, its a pleasure to meet you. If you are lonely, I could stay with you until your father returns. After all, the dark's not so bad if you don't have to wait alone."

Jamie looked up at Victor and lightly smiled. “I would like that, but it’s up to you. I take after my mother, my father is one really scary guy. I don’t want you to get hurt because of me. I would really like it if you could stay though.” Jamie said sweetly as he began to grab ahold of his left arm gently.

In answer to Jamie's statement, Victor went over to him and sat down on the opposite side of the log. "Don't worry. I doubt your dad could scare me. There's a lot more to me than what you see." He sat next to Jamie for a time and just watched the woods in silence. After a time, a small motion caught his eye. He gave a smile and pointed at something as it flew by. "Look, a Moon Moth."

Jamie looked up and saw the moth. It was incredible to look at everything about it was so neat. “Cool.” Jamie said with his eyes widening. He stretched out his finger gently and the moth landed on it. “This is so cool.” He said lightly. His concentration was all on the moth.

Victor looked at the moth sitting lightly on Jamie's finger and felt a twinge of sadness and envy. He could never touch living things without fear of killing them. All the same, it was nice to see that it had picked up Jamie's mood a bit. Suddenly, Victor looked from the moth to the moon. "Hey Jamie, hold the moth up to the moon. If you do, it will glow silver."

Jamie gently maneuvered his finger up to the moon. The moth started to glow in a luminescent silver tone. It was beautiful and he was happy. “Wow, moths are so amazing.” He looked up at the moon and the moth a sad thought entered his mind. The moon was always so beautiful, he was grateful that it wasn’t a full moon that night, he didn’t want to become a wolf.

Victor watched the moth glow for a moment before letting his gaze go back to the moon. "Yes, they are. You know, there is a legend that says if you hold a Moon Moth up to the moon and it glows silver, your life is about to change in unexpected ways. The legend also says that if the moth glows gold, it means that the deepest desire of your heart is about to come true....Of course, those are just legends. Moon moths only ever glow silver, but still. Its a nice story." Victor turned to Jamie with a smile that was both sad but happy. "It seems that the moth likes you."
