Kayley swallowed. The boy's laugh didn't sound very humorous. She wondered if he was a regular human like they were, or possibly something different. But if he wasn't human, how could she tell what the heck he really was? What mythical creatures looked like and how they acted were probably different here than they were in movies and books. "Yeah, pretty much what she said," she agreed. "We don't know how to get back to our home. We were kind of hoping to figure that out while we were here." She looked up at the boy again, wondering if maybe he had done something to bring them here. "You haven't been doing any funny magic lately by any chance, have you?" she asked. Who knew, maybe the boy had done a spell and had somehow brought people from Earth to Orachd. It sounded pretty possible to her.

Jim stared down the one girl, Esmerelda. "I'd watch that tongue if I were you. Others here aren't as kind to strangers as I am." With that, Jim dropped to the ground, stuffed his hands into his pockets and began to walk towards the girls but kept a bit of distance. It was fun making them nervous. He wouldn't hurt them of course, he had no interest in hurting bystanders, but he didn't mind making them sweat. As he circled around them, he listened to Kayley's question. It truly sounded like they weren't from Orachd. So where were they from then? He paused in his pacing at the word magic before letting a grin spread across his face. "Magic isn't my specialty, ponytail. But fire...." With that, Jim took his hand from his pocket and held it out while flames appeared and danced between his fingers. "Think fast." With that, he flicked a small flame at the feet of the two girls, just something to scare them a bit.

Esmeralda grimaced at the stranger. Her clenched fist shook with rage, but she said nothing else. He did have a point; some of the other people probably wouldn't be so nice. And if douche-baggeryness was the closest to 'nice' she was going to get, might as well play that game. He Kayley while circling them like...a predator. But upon him mentioning fire made her ears perk? Fire. And then the flame flew. This wasn't the same kind of fire that Esmeralda conjured whenever she tossed down her flash powder. Nope; this was a genuine orange and blue core of searing fire one only conjured from accidentally lighting something. Also, thinking fast was somethign Esmeralda did on a regular basis, so not much of a challenge. Fanning the fire would make it spread faster. Her canteen, which was filled with water from the stream, sloshed. Smirking, Esmeralda pulled the blue and grey-brown device from her waist, dousing the fire. "Nice trick," she said calmly.

Kayley scowled. "Ponytail? Great, I have a new nickname already. Looks like it could fit you too," she said, gesturing to Jim's rat-tail. He certainly seemed to get a kick out of messing with people. And he proved that point even further when he made fire, actual genuine fire, pop into his hand. Kayley couldn't help but stare for a moment. Anytime she saw magic in this place, she was always astounded. But when Jim threw the little fireball towards her and Esmeralda, she gave a little squeak and hopped out of the way. Luckily, Esmeralda managed to put the fire out before it could cause any harm. "Well, someone's a pyromaniac," she muttered under her breath.

Jim let the flames running over his fingers grow smaller until they disappeared all together. While teasing them was fun, a new feeling was taking over. He was becoming curious of the two girls, who they really were and where they were from. As much as they might think he wasn't normal, he thought them just as strange. He took another step forward so that he was even closer to them and stared them up and down. The more he looked at them, the more he realized how out of place they were and that they truly must have been from somewhere different. "I see you two weren't lying about not being from here. Heck, you couldn't even tell apart a wizard from a....." Jim paused in his speech, almost having revealed he was part-dragon. That wasn't something he felt like revealing to two strangers, even if they didn't belong in Orachd. He tried to cover up the pause. "Well, I can't tell you how you got here or who brought you here, but I can tell you this much. You'd better be careful. This is a bad time to be in Orachd, especially if you can't protect yourself."

Esmeralda noticed something about Jim's attitude. Whatever sense of malice was there before had been replaced with something else. In fact, this was probably the first amiable thing he had said to them. "We'll keep your advice handy," she said, ignoring the odd pause he said before his next sentence. "So...do you know anyway to society? Or are you like a wood bandit, just hanging out in the woods?"

"Apart from a what?" Kayley asked, raising an eyebrow when she noticed Jim's pause. If he wasn't a wizard, what was he? She wanted to ask, but no doubt Jim would just make fun of her for being ignorant, so she kept her questions to herself. "We can take care of ourselves just fine," she replied, being a bit prideful. While she and Esmeralda may not have the best weapons on hand, at least they were smart enough to keep their wits about them if they met someone dangerous. And, if things got too hairy, they could always flee. Retreat was sometimes the best option for some situations.

Jim gave a frown at Esmerelda's words. "I'm no thief. I just came out here to get away from some annoying relations. If you want to find a town, there's a path about a mile south of here that will lead you to one." He nodded his head in the direction of the trail. "I wouldn't get too cocky though. I could have taken down both of you in several different ways by now if I'd wanted to. Others around here won't hesitate to attack you. And sorry to say but a fake sword and a dagger will just make them laugh."

"Why do you think I asked about civilization?" Esmeralda asked, crossing her arms. She was grateful that Jim gave them directions to town, "that way we can get some more appropriate supplies. Because, quite frankly you're right, my stuff is just boring parlor tricks compared to yours." Okay, maybe that came across as flirty, but Esmeralda truly was impressed. A part of her wanted to ask Jim to join them, but already she knew the answer.

"Hey, you gotta make do with what you have," Kayley said. She didn't exactly have money to buy a sword, nor the skills to forge one herself. Maybe she could get some help with that in the future, 'cause the latex sword in her hand wasn't going to serve her for very long, even if she was attached to it.

Jim nodded in agreement with Kayley's comment. "True." He also cocked his head to the side at Esmerelda's mention of tricks. "Parlor tricks? What do you mean?" Jim wasn't familiar with the term. After all, he lived in a world where magic was real and dangerous. He'd never come across someone who merely pretended to do magic.

"Oh, uh...yeah, I guess I should explain that." Esmeralda rubbered the back of her head with a nervous grin. She untied her sash to expose her supply pouch. Her canteen sat nearby. Esmeralda untied the pouch to pull out all the necessary supplies she used and had with her; flash powder, lights, show scarves, and everything any decent magic shop could sell someone. "I...travel with a group of gypsies. We perform magic tricks as part of our acts. Well, I do; I'm also a dancer. So, these little babies create my parlor tricks." She pulled out a deck of cards, holding it out to her companions. "Come on, you two; pick a card."

"You're a gypsy? Wow, that's so cool!" Kayley exclaimed excitedly. She had seen gypsies on T.V., but had never met one in person before. No wonder Esmeralda was so tough. Kayley would have to get some tips from her on that. Kayley herself could be a bit of a girly-girl sometimes. "Um..." She gazed at the cards before pointing to the one on the far left. "That one."
