Jim felt pissed of now. Not only had he blown his cover to two strangers, he'd also ruined yet another set of clothes. Pretty soon his entire wardrobe would be full of tears and holes. "I'm fine." He stated shortly at Esmerelda, although a thin stream of smoke leaked from the corners of his mouth. He shot a sour look at Kayley as she bounced around in apparent happiness. "Yeah, great, you met a dragon. Whoop-de-do." But he couldn't help but feel a tiny bit of relief at how the two girls were taking it. Most people would have taken one look at him and run off in terror, but these two....they were something different. "Most people around here wouldn't exactly be happy to run into a dragon, full or half, you know."

Kayley's fangirling made Esmeralda a bit amused. She looked over at er before speaking, "Um...yeah...back where we come from, dragons exist only in books or fairy tales. Kayley's showing a bit more enthusiasm," Esmeralda explained. "But if you want terror, fine." Sarcastically, Esmeralda swooned. She opened one eye after a minute. "Half? How the hell does that work? I mean, I know Asian dragons shapeshift and what-not but...wouldn't whoever the dragon parent is, like, crush the other?"

"Really? Why?" Kayley asked curiously. Jim seemed like a nice enough guy, when he wasn't being mischievous or sarcastic. Did dragons really have that bad of a reputation around here? Maybe they were the bad guys in this place, instead of the good guys. She did laugh a little when Esmeralda asked her question. She got the mental image of a dragon spouting romantic poetry to a woman and accidentally squishing her with her foot. She sometimes found humor in weird ways.

Jim stared at Esmerelda for a time when she asked her strange question. He then gave his head a slight shake before answering. "Don't know and I don't really want to know." While the two girls seemed kind enough, he didn't feel like telling them about how dragons shapeshifted into human forms to stay alive. While they might not want to hurt dragons, they might pass the information on to someone who did. He put a hand to the back of his head as he tried to next address Kayley's question. "As to why people don't like dragons? Same as with a lot of other things. They're afraid of what we can do and since they can't control us, we're dangerous. We're a threat that needs to be removed." Jim felt the old anger starting in him again. Dragons were nearly extinct because of Orachd, killed in huge numbers because they wouldn't submit to the will of men. But Jim couldn't help but remember that dragons too had wronged him. Hadn't they killed his family, leaving him alive only because they saw him as a dragon? "I don't know what your fantasy stories about us are like, but you're gonna learn quickly that this world doesn't usually end happily.....especially now with the war coming."

"Jim, the world doesn't end happily in our land anyways," Esmeralda shrugged. "To us. fantasy stories are kind of a, you know, escape from that world. Obviously, with our case, we wound up in something not as pretty." Although Esmeralda had more of an interest towards the darker fairy tales like the Brothers Grimm and Roald Dahl; now THOSE were lessons that stuck with you. "I'm...sorry that you're struck with predjudice. If it's any consolation, that's something we have in common."

Kayley pouted as her brow furrowed. Jim and Esmeralda had both faced prejudice in their lives? They were good people, she was sure of that. But she knew the world didn't have such a positive view on people as she did. Granted, she had been made fun of a bit in the past because of her nerdish ways, but never any actual prejudice. "Well, maybe things will get better," she said, trying to liven the situation up a bit. "You never know, you know?"

Jim gave a small smile, a genuine smile, at their words. "Yeah, I guess you guys are right. It's nice to know I'm not the only person who feels a bit lost at times." He gave a little chuckle at his joke. However, the smile dropped from his face as he turned towards the sun. It was starting to go down now, just starting to touch the distant horizon. "The sun's setting....it'll be dark soon." He turned towards Esmerelda and Kayley. "You two don't want to be caught out here at night. This forest has some nasty inhabitants." Jim thought for a moment before reaching a conclusion. "If you want, I'll take you to the Royal City. It's the closest town. I can lead you and then leave you there. You'll be able to get food and a place to sleep."

"Really?" Esmeralda asked earnestly. She was a little upset that he wouldn't be joining them, but hey, she'd get to know Kayley a little more. Besides, being with another person from Earth could possibly give them a little pack. Kayley was a LARPer like her after all. Even if it was totally different styles of LARPing. "Jim, that'd be awesome."

"Tell me about it," Kayley muttered. She certainly felt lost in this place, this strange kingdom where dragons existed and magic was real. It was unlike anywhere she had ever been before. She still felt excited about it though, even if some of that excitement had some fear mixed with it. She brightened up a bit when Jim offered to escort them to the Royal City, even though she was a bit disappointed that he wouldn't be staying with them. But given that there was a prejudice against dragons around here, she supposed that was probably a safer option for him. "You'd do that? Thanks." She smiled at him.

Jim felt a spark of happiness that Kayley and Esmerelda were thankful for his offer. Of lately, he'd not been able to help anyone and the prospect of assisting the two girls made him feel like he could still lend a hand here and there. "Alright then, you two better collect everything you have. Just follow me." He went back to the tree he had been sleeping in and took out his solar-surfer where it had been hidden in the hollow of the tree. He slung the board over his shoulder and began to lead the way through the forest. After about half an hour, his feet hit the compacted dirt of a road. "You two still alive?" Jim called over his shoulder as he turned towards the girls.

Esmeralda patted her sash. "All set, oh helpful one," she said teasingly. The device Jm used to escort them was, Esmeralda admitted, pretty intense. The walk was spent in silence; but, Esmeralda thought, it was for a good reason. Heaven forbid someone hear their friendly chatter and get them in trouble. But Jim and Esmeralda were more than capable of fighting a group. Kayley, although she was adorable, seemed too naive. But, Esmeralda thought, I'm being too harsh on her. Kayley's a good kid; maybe she's also a good fighter. Once Jim dtopped, Esmeralda's feet were starting to tenderize. She was used to walking, but sometimes a long length did a number on her. She massaged the ball of her foot. "Um, I'm thankful I have no bunions. Other than my feet, I'm fine."

Kayley nodded. She didn't have much stuff on hand anyway, just her latex sword that she should probably get rid of when she had the chance and try to find something more substantial. Esmeralda was practically better off than she was. At least she had a real weapon on hand, even if it was just a dagger. "Alive and kicking," she replied, smiling at Jim.

Jim smirked at the two as he switched the solar-surfer to his other shoulder. "The Royal City is about two more miles up this trail. The forest ends in another mile. I'll take you to the edge of the forest but I'll have to leave you there. I can't really go any further when I look like this." Jim's forehead creased with a frown as he mentioned this. He hated being treated so badly simply because he was half human and half dragon. But that wasn't important right now. "Need a moment to rest, or you ready to head out?" Kayley seemed ready to go but Esmerelda clearly wasn't used to this kind of environment.

"I'll catch up," Esmeralda held her hand up. She massaged her foot. It was her own fault for not wearing shoes on a regular basis. She was lucky not to have developed bunions or corns from all her assesive walking. "You guys go on ahead. Besides, you both saw me in action, I can take care of myself. And like you said, Jim; the foest is thinning out to the likelihood of me getting robbed is...slim."

"Can you change back eventually?" Kayley asked, looking at Jim's dragon-features again. She assumed he could, since he looked completely human when they first met him. But she wondered how long it took. She glanced back at Esmeralda when she told them to go ahead. "You sure?" she asked, hating the idea of leaving Esmeralda out here all on her own. Sure, she was pretty tough and could get herself out of any trouble she was in, but Kayley did consider her a friend, even though she hadn't known her for that long.
